A Disney vacation is something that a lot of people have to save for and plan to do because of the high cost of a Disney vacation. We are no different. But then there are additional concerns if you have someone who is disabled in your family no matter if they are an adult or a child.

That is one reason we love to go to Disney for vacations because they are so disability friendly! Disney wants everyone to enjoy themselves at their resorts, Parks, cruise line and vacation club!

Experiencing the Disney Parks in a wheelchair with a mobility disability or even a hidden disability can be overwhelming and very difficult. I do recommend you plan as much as possible if you have a disability and do research. That’s one reason we started our blog and YouTube channel. To help other people plan their Disney vacations!

When we were thinking of the best disability friendly attractions, we took into consideration several things. If you could stay in your wheelchair, the amount of time you are allowed if you have to transfer and ease of access.

This is our top list for disability friendly attractions at the Disneyland Resort.

1. The Disneyland Railroad- The Disneyland Railroad is great! It takes you all around the Park and can be used as transportation to another part of the Park. They have a car at the very back of the train that can have a wheelchair or mobility scooter right on. You can stay in your chair or on the mobility scooter and can hold 1 or 2 other passengers. If you have a larger party the rest can just get on the train like the other passengers!

2. Mark Twain- The Mark Twain Steamboat is so fun! Especially if you are looking for something relaxing to do! You can go on in whatever you are in and stay in your chair or scooter!

3. The Disneyland Monorail- Yes this is a transportation system! But it can be great fun just to ride. You can stay in your chair or scooter.

4. Jungle Cruise- The World Famous Jungle Cruise is one of my (Melissa) favorite rides!!! I have loved this one since I was a kid. If you can transfer great! But they do have a boat that you can stay in your wheelchair! If you are in a scooter and cant get down into the boats ask for the attraction wheelchair and they will transfer you to the attraction wheelchair and put you on the ride that way!

5. “it’s a small world”- yes the official name is lower case and it written like this! While my hubby (David) doesn’t like the theming of the ride it is very disability friendly because they have a boat that you can stay in your wheelchair! It works like all of these…if you are in a scooter they have a manual attraction wheelchair you can transfer into to go on the ride.

6. The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh- This is one of my very favorite rides (Melissa)!!! This last time we went I asked to stay in my manual wheelchair and got to experience what staying in the wheelchair is like. I have to say it was great!

7. Toy Story Midway Mania- Our family loves this attraction! And they have a car that can take your wheelchair!

8. Ariel's Undersea Adventure- AKA The Little Mermaid Ride…They have a cute vehicle they call a Chariot that you can stay in your wheelchair!

9.The Shows- We categorized all the shows together because they have handicap viewing areas for the parades, the fireworks, Fantasmic, World Of Color, and all of the shows!

10. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage- This attraction is not disability friendly really…. Its not… to get into the subs there is a steep, winding staircase…but…they have a handicap viewing area that you get to see the entire ride show!!! Its great for anyone who cant get down the stairs or those in your party who may be claustrophobic!

11. Space Mountain- This one you do have to transfer but they have a disability vehicle that you can take as much time as you need to transfer!

12. Grizzly River Run- We love this one! You will get wet! You may get soaked! And you do have to transfer…but with this one they have a dedicated disability vehicle and you can take your time.

13. Tom Sawyers Island- The rafts going over can take wheelchairs and scooters. I haven’t been over yet in my wheelchair but we do intend to do it to see what its like.

14. Monsters Inc. Mike And Sulley To The Rescue- I (Melissa) love this ride. It is based on the story of the Monsters Inc. movie. And they have a car that you can stay in your wheelchair!

15. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters- We really don’t like this ride because we think Toy Story is a better version but you can stay in your wheelchair so its great for disability.

So any of these that you can stay in your wheelchair that means manual or powerchair but with that said there are size limitations and not all powerchairs fit. But if you can transfer to the manual wheelchair at the attraction you can still go on it! All of the attractions that can take a wheelchair on have a manual wheelchair so if yours doesn’t fit or you are using a mobility scooter, you can use the manual wheelchair and go on it!

What questions do you have about accessibility in attractions at Disneyland? Im working with another blogger on a post about Disney World.
